Young Professionals Community (YPC)

Mission – Create a vibrant community of young professionals at the National Defense University while serving as the primary resource for career development, professional skill building, networking, training, and education for NDU's junior professionals.  

Membership – The Young Professionals Community is open to all junior staff, students, contractors, and interns working at National Defense University. 

What We Do:

Development Programs:

  • Career Seminars – Assemble panels of experts in specific professional fields to discuss their careers, share their perspectives of the field, and offer advice to attendees.
  • Skill Workshops – Provide valuable information on developing specific skills and tools vital to young professionals for career advancement.
  • Lecture Series – Host distinguished speakers to share their career stories, offer mentorship, and present analyses of important current events. 
  • Offsite Visits – Take groups of YPC members on tours of Washington-area organizations.


  • Social Events – Host a variety of opportunities for YPC members, giving them the chance to meet each other in social settings including happy hours, intramural sports, and other activities. 
  • Reverse Mentorship – Match YPC members with senior NDU staff members who provide career advice and guidance.

Community Relations:

  • External Relations and Partnerships – Build partnerships with other professional organizations in the DC area beneficial to young professionals and the NDU Community. 
  • NDU Relations – Foster relationships with NDU organizations and components across the campus in order to build institutional support for YPC.  
  • Membership and Alumni – Ensure the continuity of YPC by recruiting new NDU employees to get involved with YPC, while also staying connected with alumni as they advance in their careers.
