CTNSP combines scientific and technical assessments with analyses of current strategic and defense policy issues, taking on topics to bridge the gap. The Center conducts research and analysis for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Services, Defense laboratories, Congress, and other government agencies. The Center has produced studies on proliferation and homeland security, military transformation, international science and technology, information technology, life sciences, and social science modeling.  Fellows of the Center are encouraged to share their research by publishing books, articles and monographs; to provide analysis and briefings for policymakers, prepare and teach courses, and sponsor research at other academic institutions.
