STRATEGIC POLICY FORUM

    ADVANCING NATIONAL SECURITY DIALOGUE

The Strategic Policy Forum (SPF) hosts a series of crisis simulations for Members of Congress and senior Executive Branch officials that provide a unique opportunity for open and frank discussion of pressing national and homeland security issues. These exercises are an important part of the national security process and provide bipartisan, not-for-attribution dialogue between the Executive and Legislative branches.

RECENT EXERCISE   - Thank you to all participants for attending "Deadly Venture"

Latin America Narco-Terrorism

Exercise Deadly Venture  examined the nexus of illicit narcotics trafficking and terrorism, with particular focus on Latin America and the U.S.-Mexico cross-border region. Participants were asked to consider the strategic environment in which this nexus exists and develop options to mitigate or counter the unique threats to U.S. national security posed by the similarities, linkages and areas of convergence of the activities of Latin American drug trafficking organizations with those of international terror networks.

Latin America Narco-Terrorism

"The drug trade is a powerful corrosive that weakens the rule of law in affected countries, preventing governments from effectively reducing or containing other transnational hazards, such as terrorism, insurgency, organized crime, weapons trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, and piracy. For DoD, the clear linkages between international narcotics trafficking and international terrorism constitute a threat to the national security interests of the U.S."
