Second Life Preconference Workshops
We are pleased to offer preconference Second Life workshops April 23rd at the beginner and at the advanced level in response to the high level of interest in Second Life. Each workshop will be three hours long and limited to 20 participants per session. There will be a morning session (9-12) and an afternoon session (1-4) offered for each workshop. The cost of each workshop is $50. We anticipate the workshops to fill quickly so register early!! The link to the registration form is below. First Steps in Second Life
New to Second Life? Want help learning the basics? In this beginning workshop, you will create an avatar (if you do not have one), fly, communicate, edit your appearance, search, use the map and access your inventory—just the basics. The workshop includes the book, Second Life: The Official Guide by Michael Rymaszewski, Wagner James Au, Cory Ondrejka, and Richard Plate.
Instructor: Sue Singer, Linden Labs
Susan Singer is a Program and Product Manager at Linden Lab, the founder of the 3D user-created virtual world, Second Life. Susan coordinates the design, development and implementation of various Linden Lab projects, both for Second Life features and functionality as well as internal process improvements. She has built her career in technology consulting, working for firms that focused on strategic identification and technical implementation. Prior to her graduate degree, she founded a boutique consulting company. She has a B.A. in Cognitive Science from Wellesley College and an M.B.A. from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. She lives in Washington, DC and works remotely for Linden Lab.
Advanced Second Life.
Since you have the basics with your avatar, this workshop will focus on some basic skills that you will need to know to manage information and basic building in Second Life. You will learn how to load PowerPoint slides and stream video onto a screen as well as link documents for download to those who visit your Second Life island. In addition to “how to” present and collaborate in Second Life, you will learn some simple building techniques to help you understand the building process and to manage outside contractors. The workshop includes the book, Creating Your World: The Official Guide to Advanced Content Creation for Second Life by Aimee Weber, Kimberly Rufer-Bach, and Richard Platel.

Aimee Weber is the founder and CEO of Aimee Weber Studio (www.AimeeWeber.com), one of the largest and most celebrated content creation companies in Second Life, and lead author of Creating Your World: The Official Guide to Advanced Content Creation for Second Life. Weber writes for AOL's Massively.com formerly Second Life Insider (www.secondlifeinsider.com) and accepts select speaking invitations on virtual worlds. She also earned a degree in English from Columbia University with a Minor in Computer Science.
