Fall 2009 Advanced Management Program Convocation

Monday, September 14, 2009, 21-mid to senior level government officials began the IRM College’s 14-week Advanced Management Program (AMP). This is the College’s 39th AMP. The students are from various elements of the Department of Defense, as well as the Department of State, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security. This program also includes an officer from Pakistan. Three of the students are participating in the AMP through the Department of Defense’s Information Assurance Scholarship Program.

The 39th AMP is the first one to allow students to choose to earn the College’s Chief Information Officer Certificate or Government Strategic Leader Certificate, as well as the AMP diploma. Beginning in the Spring of 2010, AMP students will have an additional concentration choice, Chief Financial Officer Leadership. Through a flexible cohort design, students participate in a combination of core and elective courses. Core courses include Policy Foundations for Resource Management, Measuring Organizational Performance, and Strategic Leader Theory and Practice.

The convocation was presided over by the College’s Senior Director, Dr. Robert D. Childs. The convocation’s guest speaker, Ms. Casey Coleman, Chief Information Officer, U.S. General Services Administration challenged students to be risk taking servant leaders. Quoting Wayne Gretzky, she noted “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Applications for the 40th AMP which begins January 25, 2010 are currently being accepted. The early application deadline is October 15, 2009. The final deadline is November 13, 2009.

Apply now for AMP, which begins September 10, 2007. The deadline for applications is June 2, 2007. The early application deadline for this Program is May 2, 2007.

AMP 34 Graduation
On Friday, April 13, 2007, nearly 300 mid-to-senior level government and private-sector leaders graduated from the IRM College, earning graduate certificates in the College’s Various Programs (Advanced Management Program (AMP), Chief Information Officer, Enterprise Architecture, Information Assurance, IT Project Management, and Organizational Transformation).  About 70% of the graduates were employees of the Department of Defense; 24% were from federal civilian agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Labor, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Health and Human Services, the General Services Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other branches of the U.S. Government; 3% were from the U.S. private sector; and 3% of the graduates were from allied coalition partners representing the Republic of Korean, Poland, Pakistan, Singapore, and Tunisia.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by the College’s Senior Director, Dr. Robert D. Childs.  The keynote speaker was Mr. Michael W. Carleton, Chief Information Officer of the U.S. General Services Administration.  Mr. Carleton, a graduate of the College’s 6th Advanced Management Program class, was inducted into the National Defense University’s Hall of Fame two years ago.  During the graduation ceremony, Mr. Carleton also received the Association of the IRM College Distinguished Alumni Award. 

During the ceremony, the following individuals were honored by IRM College private sector and professional association partners:

Dr. Elizabeth McDaniel, the College’s Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs, announced the IRM College Professor of the Year.  Dr. William Stan Boddie received this honor. 

The College’s 35th Advanced Management Program will begin on September 10, 2007.  Applications, due June 2, 2007, are currently being accepted.  The early application deadline is May 2, 2007.   The College’s 36th AMP will begin on January 7, 2008.  Applications are due October 1, 2007.  The early application deadline is September 4, 2007. AMP 34 Begins:
Thursday, January 4, 2007, 23-mid to senior level government officials began the College’s 14-week Advanced Management Program (AMP).  This is the College’s 34th AMP.   The students are from various elements of the Department of Defense, as well as the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Homeland Security, and coalition partners from Korea, Pakistan, Poland, Tunisia, and Singapore. The noon time convocation was presided over by the College’s Senior Director, Dr. Robert D. Childs and the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Networks & Information Integration) and The Department of Defense Chief Information Officer, The Honorable John Grimes.  One of Secretary’s Grimes thoughts related to the criticality of understanding process for information age leaders.  Business Process Improvement is one of the six core courses.  The Program’s curriculum enables students to achieve a Chief Information Officer Certificate.  Many students through their elective choices pursue courses that apply towards the College’s other programs, including Information Assurance, Enterprise Architecture, IT Project Management, and Organizational Transformation.  Applications for the Fall 2007 AMP, which begins September 10, 2007, are currently being accepted.  The deadline for applications is June 2, 2007.  The early application deadline for this Program is May 2, 2007.  Details regarding the Program are available here. AMP 33 Graduation:
Thursday, December 14, 2006, 27-mid and senior level government officials graduated from the College’s thirty-third Advanced Management Program (AMP).  The graduates were from various elements of the Department of Defense, the Department of State, the Department of Homeland Security, coalition partner countries Israel, Morocco, Pakistan, and Singapore, and private industry partners Robbins-Gioia and Raytheon   Three of the graduates participated in AMP33 as part of the DoD Information Assurance Scholarship Program.

The graduation ceremony recognized excellence on the part of 5-Distinguished Graduates.  The Top Graduate, Mr. Bee Teck Tan of Singapore’s Ministry of Defense was acknowledged by Mr. Fred Rainbow, Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association (AFCEA).  The Program’s other Distinguished Graduates were Mr. Brian Conroy, U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command; Ms. Holley McRea, U.S. Department of State; Ms. Kimberly Brannon, Raytheon, and Major Ajmal Tarar, Pakistani Army.  Mr. Leo Marier, Computer Sciences Corporation, presented the College’s Senior Director, Dr. Robert D. Childs, with a plaque commemorating the graduation of each student. 

The IRM College’s AMP includes core courses in policy, strategic planning, performance measurement, business process improvement, acquisition, information assurance, and strategic leader development.  Additionally, students in this program participate in a variety of electives with their peers from the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National War College, and School for National Security Executive Education.  The Advanced Management Program’s curriculum enables students to achieve a Chief Information Officer Certificate, as well as the Advanced Management Program Certificate.  Many students through their elective choices pursue courses that apply towards the College’s other programs, including Information Assurance, Enterprise Architecture, IT Project Management, and Organizational Transformation

The College’s 34th AMP began on January 4, 2007.  The Honorable John Grimes, who is both the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration and also serves as the Department of Defense’s Chief Information Officer was the AMP34 convocation speaker.
