IRM College 2009 Award Summary

In February 2009, the IRM College’s Senior Director, Robert D. Childs, was recognized by the 1105 Government Information Group and Federal Computer Week as one of the winners of the 2009 Federal 100 Awards. The Federal 100 award recognizes individuals in government and industry who made significant contributions to the federal information technology community in 2008.

In June 2009, the IRM College’s “Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds” was selected as a finalist in the Management of Change Awards, presented by the American Council for Technology. The MOC Awards recognized IT projects that demonstrate how intergovernmental collaboration and innovative technology deliver results that increase government transparency and enable civic engagement.

In June 2009, AFCEA presented its Excellence in IT Award, to IRM College Director, Robert D. Childs, for accomplishments in IT which advance the organization’s mission and impact national IT strategies. Dr. Childs was also recognized for furthering the exchange of knowledge about computer systems and IT between the defense and non-defense government communities.

In June 2009, the Federal Government Distance Learning Association recognized the IRM College with an Eagle Award for its "Unique contributions in serving the needs of the Federal Government Distance Learning community by providing leadership, vision, and advocacy." The 2009 Eagle Award, the highest award presented by FGDLA, was accepted by Dr. Jay Alden, Professor, a pioneer in distance learning and a catalyst for the formation of the FGDLA, and Dr. Elizabeth McDaniel, IRM College Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs.

In August 2009, Dr. Marwan Jamal, Professor at the IRM College, will be recognized by The 1105 Government Information Group with a Rising Star Award. This award is given annually to up-and-coming government and industry employees who are making an early and substantive mark in the federal information technology community. Dr. Jamal will be recognized for his accomplishments in bringing together the government and private-sector organizations with formal partnership agreements.
