NATO Orientation Program (NOP)
NOP is a eight(8) day course designed to introduce the student to NATO and related European issues. Our goal is to prepare staff officers to rapidly and fully integrate into their NATO assignment. This course is required by CJCS Instruction 1210.01D (http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/) for all field grade officers en route to NATO assignment. Other officers, civilians and senior enlisted personnel (E7 and above) are very welcome and encouraged to attend.
The program consists of intensive instruction in the Washington Treaty; NATO Headquarters Oganization; the NATO integrated Military command Structure; the Alliance's Strategic Concept; and the NATO Staff Environment. The program additionally provides a unique opportunity for discussion with senior U.S., Allied, and Partnership for Peace guest speakers, including representatives from the Joint Staff, OSD, State Department, Capitol Hill, Military Attaches, and Senior Flag and General Officers and diplomats with current or recent NATO experience.
