Advance Defense Policy (ADP) Oct 15 - Nov 4, 2009

Candidate Profile

Please read the course description and this candidate profile prior to completing your application.

The Advanced Defense Policy course (ADP) is primarily available for CHDS graduates (both civilian and military) from resident courses held at CHDS between 1998 and October 2008.  Non-CHDS graduates will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as the course is designed to expand upon the academic foundation established during the original course.  The ideal candidate is currently engaged in national defense policy formulation, implementation or evaluation.

All candidates (civilian and military) must hold a university degree.  There are no exceptions to this requirement, and related or equivalent work experience cannot be substituted for the degree requirement, as the course is offered at the master’s (post-graduate) level.

Candidates must have access to the internet, preferably using a wide-band connection.  Candidates must also be able to commit to participating in the three-week on-line phase, and the resident phase.  A maximum of 16 people will be selected, and each participant will receive an individual evaluation, with grade, at the end of the course.

English reading skills

There are two phases to this course – a pre-course phase in which texts in English will be read by all the participants, and a three-week resident phase held at CHDS.  Because the required pre-course readings are only available in English, and the difficulty level of these texts is significant, these instruction and the application form are prepared only in English.  If you experience problems understanding the English text here, please consider applying for a different course.  An oral interview will be conducted for all candidates that have not clearly demonstrated an ability to read professional texts in English.  For all individuals selected to participate in this course, successful completion of the three-week pre-course reading phase is a prerequisite to attend the resident phase at CHDS.  The resident phase will be conducted entirely in Spanish.
