Message from the Editor

Dear Colleagues,

            This edition of the Security and Defense Studies Review departs from the general format to present a series of essays based on papers, presentations, and experiences of some of the attendees at the Sub-Regional Conference hosted by CHDS, entitled  “Transnational Security and Governability.”  The Conference was held from 14 to 18 November 2005 in Montevideo, Uruguay.  The attendees consisted of 105 invited participants and 18 CHDS Faculty and Staff.

            Based on their presentations at the Conference, several of the invitees were asked to expand their papers or presentations into essays for inclusion in this edition of the ejournal.  Additionally, one plenary presentation and one essay derived from a CHDS adjunct professor’s appreciation of the topic and the conference are included.  The details of each presentation are available in summary form under the “Abstract” heading below the essay’s entry on the contents page, in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

            Accordingly, we hope that a benefit of this use of the Security and Defense Studies Review will permit the deliberations of those attending the Conference to be available to a much wider audience, the readership of this ejournal.  Your comments and suggestions are invited, as we hope that this format will prove useful in the future.

            As always, we invite you to submit your articles, essays, commentary and reviews for future editions of the Security and Defense Studies Review.  The editions to be published in 2007 are now open for submissions.  Please see the appropriate submission guidelines in your language on this SDSR web page.
