Submission Guidelines

Security and Defense Studies Review, an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to promoting open and continuing dialogue about regional defense and security issues, is seeking submissions of academic research papers for 2007 .

Papers are accepted in four forms:  Original Academic Research Paper, Essays, Research and Book Reviews, and Commentary on articles published in previous issues of the journal.  Manuscripts submitted to Security and Defense Studies Review must not have been published, or simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.

Papers should be done in MSWord, Arial, 10 pt. font, double-spaced, footnotes should be included using the footnote function, do not use endnotes All manuscripts should be written in the author’s native language (Spanish, Portuguese or English).  The title page must state the names and full addresses (including e-mail) of all authors. Authors should include an abstract and a brief biographical statement in a separate file.  Abstracts for all types of contribution must give concise factual information about the objectives of the work and the conclusions reached. A suitable length is about 250 words.  Authors are reminded that the abstracts are the only portion of the articles that will be translated, therefore authors should attempt to be brief yet comprehensive.  Manuscripts that do not meet these formatting requirements will be returned to the author and should be resubmitted with the proper formatting.

Papers should be submitted via e-mail as a Word attachment complete with any tables and illustrations, to chdsejournal@ndu.edu for peer review (if e-mail is not available, to the Journal Editor, Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, National Defense University, @ U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters Building, 2100 Second Street, SW, Suite 4214G, Washington, DC 20593-0001, on diskette with 1 hard copy). Where requested to do so by the Journal Editor, papers must be revised by authors within six weeks of the request or the paper will be considered withdrawn.

Authors who hold copyright on their work will release the rights to the Journal for the exclusive one-time publication in the journal.  Authors will retain the copyright.  The journal will publish a disclaimer indicating that the article is being printed with the author’s permission, and that the author must be contacted for permission to reproduce the article in whole or in part. (“Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.  Further reproduction prohibited without express permission of the author.”)  If the author does not hold the copyright, an article may be reproduced freely, provided that the author and Journal are credited and copies are not sold.
