Visiting Professor Julio Hang Shares His Expertise
On May 2, 2012, CHDS received a visit by Commander Julio Hang, Director of the Institute for International Security and Strategic Affairs in Argentina. CMDR Hang, a retired Argentine general, is a CHDS Distinguished Visiting Scholar. Using the breadth of his knowledge as a leading expert in the field of Argentine security policy, Mr. Hang had prepared a captivating and thought-provoking presentation on the current political state of Argentina, which he shared with CHDS staff. Focusing on what he labeled “facts, traits, and trends,” he spoke of a variety of significant issues such as the rise in commodity prices; the growth in the inequality of income distribution; political divisions; and the emergence of new world powers, such as Brazil and China. These and other concerns, combined with such serious and growing threats as narcotrafficking, insurgency, terrorism, and now cyberterrorism, will create a uniquely challenging environment during the upcoming 2013 election.
