Residence Phase of Strategy and Defense Policy Begins
On March 04, CHDS Director Dr. Richard Downie opened the residence phase of the Strategy and Defense Policy (SDP) Course, in which 58 students from 21 countries in the Americas are participating. In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Downie emphasized the importance of gathering such a diverse group of participants who bring with them distinct experience and knowledge gained from their respective careers. The objective of the SDP course is to offer participants fundamental theory and analytical instruments which can be used to develop and/or strengthen their skills to participate effectively in the formulation of defense policies and strategies and also decision making and implementation. Throughout the three weeks of the residence phase participants will analyze and discuss the course themes of international security, including alternative strategies for confronting the threats that many countries of the Hemisphere have in common.
