CHDS Honors Law and Criminology Department of the University Autónoma of Nuevo León for Advancement of Security and Defense Studies
On March 7, CHDS Director Dr. Richard Downie gathered with the CHDS faculty and staff to welcome distinguished visitors from the Law and Criminology Department of the University Autónoma of Nuevo León, Mexico. CHDS was honored by the presence of Dr. Jose Luis Prado Maillard, Director of the Law and Criminology Department at Nuevo León, who represented his institution and spoke about the important work being done to advance the study of national and international security and defense issues. On behalf of his University, Dr. Prado presented Dr. Downie with the José Alejandro de Treviño y Gutiérrez Law Medal inscribed with the seal of the University Autónoma of Nuevo León. The award recognizes Dr. Downie’s academic merits, astute leadership of CHDS, and commitment to cooperation with universities throughout the region. After receiving the medal, Dr. Downie spoke about the research being done at the Law and Criminology Department at Nuevo León, and Dr. Prado in particular, and how important it is for institutions to study the phenomena of violence and organized crime as they are ongoing issues for the entire region. Dr. Downie then named Dr. Prado a CHDS Ambassador of Goodwill for his personal attention to the development of his department and the study of security and defense issues in his country. Dr. Downie also presented Dr. Prado with a Certificate of Recognition for the Law and Criminology Department at the University Autónoma of Nuevo León.
