J. Baranick, Ph.D
Senior Research Fellow
Dr. Michael J. Baranick is a Senior Research Fellow for Modeling
and Simulation Technology. Dr. Baranick joined the Center after
having served as the Chief of the Modeling and Simulation Branch
at the National Defense University War Gaming and Simulation Center.
While assigned to the War Gaming and Simulation Center, he was the
Program Manager for the Joint Multi-dementional Education and Analysis
System (JMEANS). As the PM, he was responsible for the design and
implementation of this congressionally mandated program. For three
years, Dr. Baranick designed and managed this ten million dollar
project that brought education and information technology applications
to NDU. This project enabled the university use leading edge games
and simulations to create an experiential learning environment for
the students.
Prior to his assignment to the National Defense University, he
held a number of policy and technical advisory appointments within
the Army. He served as the Program Manager for the Functional Description
of the Battle Space on the WARSIM development team at the Army Simulation
Training and Instrumentation Command (STRICOM) in Orlando Florida.
While assigned to STRICOM he was responsible for developing the
concept plan for the establishment of The Institute for Creative
Simulation. For seven years he was the Director of the Battle Support
Simulation Center for the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) and
the Program Manager for the Theater Transition Sustainment Model
(TTSM). As the Senior Operations Research Analyst in the Command,
he conducted research and analysis in the areas of sustainment,
operations, training, and logistics.
Dr. Baranick earned his Ph.D. in Systems Planning and Development
from the Pennsylvania State University.
