Economics Curriculum Notes

The Economics Department teaches the fall core course in The Economics of National Security Strategy and contributes through the provision of the
Course Director and faculty (along with faculty from other departments) to two core spring courses. The goal of the fall course is to provide students
with the tools and perspectives necessary to analyze and develop economic strategy in a world in which national security and economic issues are intertwined.
Students learn the concepts of GDP and growth, the essentials of fiscal and monetary policy, the sources of the U.S. debt problem and its implications for
defense spending and the U.S. role in the world, the principles of international trade and capital flows, the drivers of growth in emerging market countries
(especially China), the challenges of economic development in poor countries, and economic dimensions of stabilization and reconstruction.
