In a tragic accident, the Eisenhower School's Commandant, Major General Joseph D. Brown IV, USAF and wife Mrs. Sue Stanger Brown perished when their plane crashed last Friday, April 19 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Since October 2010, Major General Brown's leadership at National Defense University was the "epitome of Air Force style, professionalism and grace." General Brown is especially remembered by students, faculty and staff of the Eisenhower School for his wise leadership and personal outreach. He and his wife, Sue Brown, hosted everyone at their quarters on Fort McNair and were especially adept at bringing people together. They have been members of the National Defense University community since 1997, when General Brown was a distinguished graduate of the National War College. General and Sue Brown were a very special couple and will be greatly missed.

General and Mrs. Brown were friends and colleagues who inspired us all to be better than we thought we could be.
