Welcome to the web page for the National Defense University Health and Fitness, the leader in health, wellness, and fitness within the Department of Defense since 1982! We will optimize your performance through state-of-the-art health, fitness, wellness, and technological strategies to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) for the NDU community. It is important to note that CVD is the number one non-combat cause of death for soldiers over the age of forty years.
Our mission is to provide the NDU community with a world-class Executive Health and Wellness program. The comprehensive health and fitness assessment program, the cornerstone of our program, is the first step in identifying individuals who require intervention to reduce their risk of CVD. A critical component of this program is to develop key intervention and prevention initiatives such as education and fitness programs for students at risk. By educating senior leaders on their own health and fitness, we help promote the health and fitness of the force they lead.
We utilize three well-equipped fitness centers to help accomplish our mission. Our professional staff is available for consultation regarding your health and fitness needs. Each year we encourage the students, faculty, and staff to participate in our comprehensive health and fitness assessment. The assessment includes:
- Treadmill evaluation for cardio-respiratory conditioning.
- Strength, flexibility, and percent body-fat assessment.
- Blood pressure and cholesterol screening.
- Questionnaires on nutrition, cancer, heart disease, and gender self-help checks.
- One-on-one consultation with a Health and Fitness professional.
Our program will save lives of senior leaders. As our military supports the Nation’s Global War on Terrorism, our senior leaders face new challenges in sustaining their health and fitness, as well as the well-being of those they lead. It is critical to identify modifiable health risks within these senior leaders and provide effective intervention. We will provide the future senior leaders of our military with the capability to maintain optimum health and fitness in a sustained operational environment.
Please feel free to review our web page and the many articles and associated links we have included for your education.
Sincerely,
Anthony Spinosa Director, Health and Fitness
