NDU iCollege Social Media Conference Aims to Reach Across Boundaries

National Defense University iCollege’s Veronica Wendt is Chosen as a Finalist for the Women in Technology Leadership Awards

The NDU iCollege is very pleased to announce that U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Veronica Wendt, a military professor at the college in the Systems and Technology Department, has been selected as a 2011 Education IT finalist for the 12th Annual Women in Technology (WIT) Leadership Awards. Founded in 1994, the Women in Technology mission is to advance women in technology from the classroom to the boardroom by providing advocacy, leadership development, networking, mentoring and technology education. WIT will recognize 46 finalists across 12 categories, including two new award categories—Green IT and Education IT. The winners will be announced at the Leadership Awards Banquet on May 19, 2011 at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner. The annual awards program honors leading female professionals working in the Greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area who have exemplified unique vision and talent in the technology industry during the previous year.

Criteria for the award included how to meet the embodiment of the Women in Technology values which are to Learn, Share and Connect. LTC Wendt was nominated by NDU iCollege leadership due to her development of the Web-Enabled Government course, which teaches government and private-sector professionals how to adopt current web technologies (such as social engagement tools, wikis, Intellipedia, Diplopedia, web meetings, virtual worlds, Twitter and more), and to incorporate these tools in their working environment. Additionally, LTC Wendt’s commitment to student networking, connecting and mentorship; community volunteerism with the Girls on the Run, a non- profit organization for middle school girls; and her promotion of technology all supported her selection for this great honor.
