Virtual Conference Participation

 

If you can ‘t attend personally, you have the option to view the live web stream from your browser. Only the main agenda will be available to view on the live stream. We advise you test the stream before the event. Please register to attend virtually. There is no cost to attend virtually. If you would like to have the experience of attending the conference live web stream and interacting with others in a virtual world, we have several virtual worlds for you to choose from below. Please follow the instructions and test your ability to participate in these worlds in advance. Instructions for stream and virtual world attendance will be posted no later than May 9, 2012.

 

T2 Conference Center FCVW Virtual Venue

The T2 Conference Center is located on T2 PTSD Education island in Second Life, and is part of the T2 Virtual PTSD Experience. This state of the art virtual venue includes a live stream of the FCVW conference, real time updated Twitter display of all tweets to the conference hash tag, and real time display of the FCVW Facebook site. Additionally, all attendees at this venue will receive a free virtual gift-the "APT" (audience participation tool) HUD, to enhance their experience at the T2 Conference Center. Guests can take the APT HUD with them after the conference to be used to enhance participation in virtual meetings, conferences, classes, and interactions throughout Second Life. The T2 Conference Center is sponsored by the National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2).

The National Defense University Information Resources Management College(NDU iCollege) (Formerly IRMC) prepares leaders to direct the information component of national power by leveraging information and information technology for strategic advantage. Primary areas of expertise include leadership; process management; information technology, policy, and security; transformation; and management of acquisition processes and reform.

IRMC Island is one of the virtual world platforms in use at the National Defense University’s iCollege. The NDU iCollege is the proud sponsor of the Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds and its annual conference.
IRMC Island is comprised of four quadrants which house various buildings with a range of different meeting spaces. iCollege faculty explore pedagogies, conduct research, and hold class sessions in Second Life.

  1. Navigate to following URL: http://apex.avayalive.com
  2. At this point, web.alive will prompt you to install an Active X control (plugin) in your browser via a smaller popup window. NOTE: Your browser may try to block the popup. If it does, look for a yellow bar at the very top of your browser. If you click on the yellow bar, it should give you the option of installing Active X from there. If you're using Vista, it may ask you for an additional permission to do the install.
  3. Your installation should take between 1-3 minutes (one time installation). After that, you will be presented with a logon screen. Make sure to uncheck the box that says to use a password.
  4. Enter your name and hit submit, you will spawn in the environment. Walk over to the main auditorium for the streaming. Press F1 for help controls and F2 for avatar personalization.

It’s designed for instantly accessible dynamic collaboration events via a web browser. Get a demo to see more of its features and to understand how it is one of the tools that are coming with VP2. You can access the virtual room via your PC, Mac, iPad and most tablets. Requirements: Browser (IE7 or above) and you may be prompted to update your Flash if it’s out of date. iPad and iOS devices work successfully without Flash requirements.
