THE AUTHOR
Captain John N. Petrie, USN, is professor of National Security Policy and Director of Research at the National War College. He has spent his career in destroyers and is en route to duty as Commander, Destroyer Squadron 32. Ashore his assignments have included duty on the Joint Staff and special assignments with State Department and National Security Council teams. Captain Petrie is a Distinguished Graduate of the Naval War College, where he served as a Research Associate and completed Senior Service College at the National War College, where he was a Senior Research Fellow. He holds an AB from Villanova University and the MALD and Ph.D. degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and
Diplomacy. Besides being the editor of Essays on Strategy XI and Essays on Strategy XII (NDU Press), Captain Petrie has had his writings published by the U.S. Naval Institute, Naval War College Review, Joint Force Quarterly (JFQ), the United Nations Association--National Capital Area, and the Fletcher Forum.
