The Conflict Records Research Center (CRRC) is pleased to release three records from the CRRC’s Saddam Hussein collection in conjunction with the 45th annual meeting of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA), held 1-4 December in Washington, D.C.

The first CRRC record, SH-PDWN-D-000-341, is a transcript of a speech by Saddam Hussein at al-Bakr University about the Iraqi military’s role in countering Zionism. Saddam states that Iraq’s acquisition of nuclear weapons will facilitate aggression against Israel.

The second CRRC record, SH-AADF-D-000-396, is a dossier discussing the role of the Iraqi Air Force in the Gulf War, and includes a description of the battlefield, and the planning, preparation, and management of the war. Additionally, there is a section on electronic warfare with conclusions and recommendations. 

The third CRRC record, SH-SHTP-D-000-856, is a transcript of a meeting between Saddam Hussein and the Armed Forces General Command focusing on the Iran-Iraq War and Iraqi regional affairs. In the meeting, Saddam Hussein also discusses the Arab-Israeli conflict and the importance of nuclear weapons for Israel’s deterrence capability.
