that gives interns the opportunity to participate in real-time work, assist in research for publications, and work closely
with a Senior Fellow who is a subject matter expert in his field.  Interns may also have the opportunity to meet
government officials, attend congressional hearings, or participate in symposia hosted by the National Defense

2010 Internship Opportunity - North Korean & Iranian Nuclear Programs:

One, or two, interns are needed to work with our State Department, Distinguished Visiting Fellow.  The internship work will include:

(1) comparative study of diplomacy regarding North Korean and Iranian nuclear programs; and
(2) study of China's role in Southwest Asia, with a special focus on Pakistan.

The intern(s) would be responsible for research on the negotiating history to resolve the North Korean nuclear crisis, and the U.S.-Iran nuclear cooperation agreement in the 1970s, and for following the current negotiations with Iran.  Analysis of all agreements, UN Security Council Resolutions, impact of sanctions on changing North Korean and Iranian behavior, as well as research on the positions of China and Russia towards both states will be key.  On China's role in Pakistan, research on the history of this relationship, impact of Indian angle, as well as on current U.S. policy towards Pakistan will be key.  These studies will also require my engagement with a range of players in government, on Capitol Hill, and at the Think Tanks around town and around the country (to include academic experts).
