INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

SUMMER 2009

 

Western Hemisphere Intern     

Pamela recently graduated the University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Art in Cognitive Psychology and Chicano/Latino Studies. Her research has focused predominantly on Honduran gangs and gang violence prevention. In addition, she has conducted research in memory effects. Pamela has received numerous awards and recognitions for her research in Gangs and Youth Prevention Programs, including Researcher of the Month, for October, 2008.  She has also been awarded with the School of Social Science Order of Merit Award in 2009.             

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Andres Intern      

Elizabeth is a senior at Yale University, and a Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow through George Mason University.  She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Russian, with an additional focus on statistics.  Elizabeth studied at the St. Petersburg State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg, Russia, through the American Council of Teachers of Russian language and areas studies program.                             

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

       John-Michael is currently pursuing an M.A. in International Relations at Yale University. His summer internship at INSS has allowed John-Michael to further explore his academic interests in International Security and Strategic Studies and has complemented his participation in Yale's Grand Strategy Program.                                     

Bunn Intern          Allison is pursuing a BA in Government and Spanish at Georgetown University. She attended the Universidad Complutense de Madrid where she completed coursework in security studies. While in Madrid she interned at the Club of Madrid where she worked on projects including "Women, Peace and Security in the Greater Horn of Africa." Allison has interned at the Hudson Institute, Political-Military Analysis Center, where she researched nonproliferation and arms control.                            

CASL Intern     

James is pursuing a BA in International Relations and French at Tufts University. He is a Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellow.  He was the Knowledge Manager for the Afghanistan Team in the Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization at the U.S. Department of State.  James interned at the Foreign Policy Association researching American-Russian relations. He serves on the Alliance Linking Leaders in Education and the Services (ALLIES) organization, which is focused on undergraduate preparation for foreign policy.                                    

        Eva is a graduate student at Baylor University majoring in International Relations.  She received her BA from Baylor in International Studies with a minor in Spanish, Rhetoric and Argumentation.  Eva has worked as a graduate assistant in the Political Science Department, teaching American Constitutional Development.  She worked at the Center for International Policy in Washington, D.C., in the Cuba Program, maintaining the Cuba Program website, monitoring Cuban politics, and maintaining an online database of US presidential candidates’ views on US-Cuba policy.   

        

Jason recently graduated UCLA majoring in History with a minor in Political Science.  He worked as Assistant Sports Editor on the UCLA Daily Bruin and on the Piedmont Post prior to that.  His background includes working as a tutor for middle school students and counselor for children 5-13.  He is the recipient of the California Governor’s Scholarship and is a California North Coast Scholar Athlete.                                             

      Julia is an undergraduate student at Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service.  She is majoring in International Politics, with a specialty in International Security Studies.  Julia just returned from a semester at St. Andrews University, Scotland.  She has worked in political campaigns canvassing in South Carolina prior to the primary, and helped raise candidacy awareness at Georgetown last year.                                            

 

    Dean is a graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, majoring in International Policy Studies.  He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.                               

        Jennifer is a Senior at the University of California at Davis, pursuing a BA in Political Science with a minor in Art History.  Her background includes extensive work with the State of California as a Student Assistant for the Office of Public School Construction, Department of General Services.  In addition, Jennifer has worked in the non-profit arena, including the SHARE Institute where she developed Cultural Awareness educational presentations for elementary school-aged children.                                              

    Claire is currently enrolled at Pace University, New York City, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, with a minor in politics.  She has placed Deans List-First Honors and 3rd Honors during the past three years.  Claire has travelled extensively through Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Ireland and the Czech Republic.  Claire has performed extensive volunteer services in environmental efforts, as well as participating as a vocal coach and piano tutor.                                               

CASL Intern     Sheila will be entering her senior year at Boston University in the fall. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with an emphasis on security studies in the Middle East. She studied abroad in London and interned at Jane's Information Group.
