Phillip Stockdale is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Technology and National Security Policy at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington DC. Prior to joining NDU, he worked as a Defense consultant specializing in Joint Capability Technology Demonstrations (JCTD) for the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).
Mr. Stockdale is a native of Perth, Western Australia. He joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1975 and served as an Intelligence specialist before retiring in 1996. His Air Force career included service with strike and reconnaissance units, service as a UN weapons inspector in Iraq, and service as a strategic intelligence analyst at the Defense Intelligence Organization. He also served as the senior Air Force instructor at the School of Military Intelligence.
After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a strategic policy analyst in the Australian Defense Force Headquarters. His roles included two years as the coordinator of Defense input to the National Security Committee, and three years as a senior manager in the Defense Imagery and Geospatial Organization.
Mr. Stockdale has two teenage children and is a keen sailor in his leisure time. He has a BA (Politics), MA (Strategic Studies), MA (Defense Studies) and Graduate Diploma in Defense Management. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of the Project Management Institute.
