This article provides an insight on events in Georgia from the perspective of a noted Georgian international affairs expert. Professor Zaza Gachechiladze expressed these views in a roundtable in 1994 at the National Defense University. Dr. Gachechiladze is associated with the University of Tbilisi and also serves as editor of the English service of the Georgian Times. He has been a close supporter of Eduard Shevardnadze.
