General Lynn Hartsell

Brigadier
General Hubert (Lynn) Hartsell was born in Newport, Arkansas, on 31 October
1949. He received his commission through the
Reserve Officer Training Corps and was appointed as a Second Lieutenant on 9
June 1971.

Hartsell's civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Accounting Auditing from Arkansas State University and a Master of Science
Degree in Comptrollership from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville,
Arkansas.

Hartsell's military schooling
includes Command and General Staff
College, Fort Leavenworth, KS, and
The United States Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.
Most
of BG Hartsell's military service has been with Field Artillery Units. His early
troop assignments include Forward
Observer,
Batter Fire Direction Officer, and Battery Executive Officer in the 1st
Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 82d Airborne Division Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Battery Executive Officer
and Battery Commander in the 1st
Battalion, 15th Field Artillery, 2d Infantry Division, Eighth United States
Army, Korea; and Battery Commander in the 2d Battalion, 36th Field Artillery,
III Corps Artillery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He later served as Executive Officer
2d Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, later as the S-3, Division Artillery, and
Commander, 2d Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 101st Airborne Division (Air
Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He served in this capacity during Operation
Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia. BG
Hartsell also commanded Division Artillery, 2d Infantry Division, Eighth United
States Army, Korea, and IIId Armored Corps Artillery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Brigadier
General Hartsell’s other assignments include Instructor and Senior Cannon
Systems Officer, Gunnery Department, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Budget Analyst, Office
of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Resource Management, United States Army Europe
and Seventh Army, Germany, Defense Resource Manager; Chief, Program and Budget
Branch, J-8, The Joint Staff,
Washington, DC; and most recently, Deputy Chief of Staff for Resources and
Evaluation, Forces Command, Fort McPherson,
Georgia.
He
is the recipient of numerous military decorations and awards including the
Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (3 awards), the Bronze
Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Army
Achievement Medal (2 awards), Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and
Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge.
Brigadier
General Hartsell is married to the former Diana Sorrels. They have three sons,
Todd, 26, married and residing in Clarksville, Tennessee, and twins, Keith,
residing in Chicago, Illinois, and Shaun,
residing in Taunton, Massachusetts, both 22.

General Hartsell’s current assignment is Army Director, Quadrennial Defense
Review, Office of the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff of the Army.
