DR. DEWI FORTUNA ANWAR

 

Dr. Anwar has been Associate Director for Research, The Habibie Center since November 1999.  She is also a Researcher at the Centre for Political and Regional Studies, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PPW-LIPI), Jakarta.  Between 1993 and 1999, she was Head of Regional and International Affairs and in November 1998 was promoted to Research Professor at PPW-LIPI.  From 1992 to the present, she is a Research Executive, Centre for Information and Development Studies (CIDES), Jakarta.  In early 2000 she became a Member, of the Board of Directors.  Other positions include Assistant to the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, The State Secretariat, Indonesia and Assistant to the Vice President for Global Affairs, The Secretariat of the Vice President, Indonesia.  Her other activities include from 1997 to present, Council Member, Australia-Asia Institute and in 2001 she became an International Council Member, The Asia Society.  Between 1998 and-1999, Member of Indonesia’s People Consultative Assembly (MPR); Member of the Economic Research Institute at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (LP3E-KADIN) (1994-1998); Foreign Policy Analyst, the Indonesian Council for Defence and Security (Wanhankamnas) (1983-1985); Congressional Fellow, the United States Congress, Washington, D.C. (1990-1991); Research Fellow, Institute for Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore (1989).  Dr. Anwar earned a B.A. in Oriental and African History at the School of and African Studies (SOAS), the University of London, with focus on South East Asia.  She also earned an M.A. in South East Asian Area Studies, SOAS, the University of London, majoring in politics and minors in economics and anthropology and a PhD from the Departments of Politics and History, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
