DR. MAQBOOL AHMAD BHATTY
Dr. Bhatty is Vice President, Islamabad Council of
World Affairs, Islamabad. He is also a
Member, Advisory Group on Foreign and Security Policy and President,
Association of Retired Ambassadors. He
joined the Foreign Service in 1951 after a brief stint in teaching. His diplomatic assignments include
Washington, D.C., Moscow, Ankara, New Delhi, Geneva and London. His posts in Foreign Offices include
Director, Director General, and Additional Foreign Secretary. Dr. Bhatty’s ambassadorial postings include
Manila, Addis Ababa, Belgrade and Beijing.
His post foreign service assignments include Adviser (PSO) to President
and Member, Federal Public Service Commission.
Dr. Bhatty earned a B.A. (Honours) and a M.A. Punjab University, Lahore,
an M.A. (Law and Diplomacy) Fletcher School, Tufts University, and a Ph.D
(Economics Geography) from Edinburgh University. Dr. Bhatty has published two books “Pakistan Today and
Tomorrow, (1989) and “Great Powers and South Asia, (1996). He is a
regular contributor to DAWN and learned journals.
