STEVEN SIMON
Mr. Simon is Assistant Director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies and Carol Dean Senior Fellow in American Security Studies. From 1994 to 1999 he was on the National Security Council staff at the White House, where he was most recently Senior Director for Transnational Threats. During his five-year tenure, he had coordination responsibilities for Near Eastern and South Asian security policy, peacekeeping operations, counter-terrorism and budgeting for international programs. Prior to this assignment, Mr. Simon held an array of posts at the Department of State, including Director for Political-Military Plans and Policy and acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Security Affairs. He has a BA from Columbia University in Classics and Near Eastern Languages, MA from Harvard, MPA from Princeton, was a University Fellow at Brown University and Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow at Oxford University.
