Via Metro:
IRM College is located at the National Defense University about 1 mile from the Washington Metro's Waterfront station on the Green Line. Leaving the station, walk down 4th Street (S) three blocks until it ends and becomes P Street SW. The Ft McNair main gate will be plainly visible. Continue East for approximately 1/4 mile to the Visitor Gate near the corner of P and Canal Streets. Alternatively, the US Coast Guard operates a shuttle between USCG HQs and the L’Enfant Plaza metro Station which serves the Orange/Blue/Yellow/Green lines. USCG HQs is located adjacent to Ft McNair’s back gate. Note: to avoid safety issues, students are advised to take a taxi to/from the Waterfront station – particularly after duty hours.

From Arlington and points South and West (via 14th St Bridge):
Follow I-395 North across the Potomac River to the Maine Avenue exit. Follow the exit ahead and turn left (E) onto Maine Ave. at the traffic light. Follow Main Ave. until it curves left and becomes M Street SW. Turn right (S) on the 4th Street SW and continue (S) three blocks until it ends and becomes P Street SW. The Ft McNair main gate will be plainly visible. Continue East for approximately 1/4 mile to the Visitor Gate near the corner of P and Canal Streets.

From Alexandria or Anacostia (via Woodrow Wilson Bridge):
Follow I-295 North to the South Capitol Street exit. Proceed across the South Capitol Street Bridge, staying to the right. Bear right coming off the bridge, avoiding the underpass, and turn left on to M street SW at the traffic light. Continue West on M Street SW to 4th Street SW. Turn left (S) on to 4th Street SW and continue (S) three blocks until it ends and becomes P Street SW. The Ft McNair main gate will be plainly visible. Continue East for approximately 1/4 mile to the Visitor Gate near the corner of P and Canal Streets.

From Maryland, Prince George's County and Eastern Montgomery County:
Follow the Capitol Beltway (I-495 or I-95) to the Baltimore-Washington (B-W) Parkway exit. Proceed Southbound on the B-W Parkway. As you near Washington, the B-W Parkway will become I-295 South, continue on I-295 to the Suitland Parkway exit. Exit at the Suitland Parkway and immediately exit on to I-295 Northbound. After joining I-295 North exit immediately at the South Capitol Street exit. Proceed across the south Capitol street Bridge, staying to the right. Bear right coming off the bridge, avoiding the underpass, and turn left on the M Street SW at the traffic light. Continue West on M Street SW to 4th Street SW. Turn left (S) on to 4th Street SW and continue (S) three blocks until it ends and becomes P Street SW. The Ft McNair main gate will be plainly visible. Continue East for approximately 1/4 mile to the Visitor Gate near the corner of P and Canal Streets.

Fort McNair Access Information
For entry onto Ft. McNair, students must have on their person a current drivers license, or military ID, or a DoD decal on their vehicle. Other IDs will not be accepted (i.e. Pentagon or Agency badge). All non-DoD Students should tell the gate guard that they are a student at IRM College when showing their drivers license. Students will be issued a vehicle pass during in-processing.

Once on post, students should report to Marshall Hall no later than 0745 on the first day of class for in-processing. The door closest to the parking lot is not accessible without a building access card. Students should use the front door of Marshall Hall. This door is open from 0700 to 1700. In-processing begins at 0715 near the front door in the Atrium. During in-processing students will be issued a security badge and a vehicle pass if applicable. These badges must be worn in a clearly visible place while inside Marshall Hall.

If interested in utilizing government lodging, students are advised that the guest quarters at Ft McNair are NOT equipped with high speed internet service. Furthermore, Ft McNair offers no food or entertainment services after duty hours. Therefore, students are encouraged to consider other lodging sites within the Military District Washington (MDW).
