The first FCVW Technical Working Group Meeting will be held at the National Defense University campus in Marshall Hall, Hopper Auditorium, Friday, June 20. It will be simultaneously broadcast to the IRMC Government Center in Second Life and to a streaming website viewable with QuickTime. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) will be giving demonstrations from 12 to 1PM and the working group meeting will take place from 1PM to 3:30PM EST. You are welcome to attend one or both events. Please RSVP (FederalConsortiumVW@ndu.edu) if you plan to attend the meeting at NDU. We have room for 75.

NUWC will demonstrate a prototyping environment using Open Simulator and personnel will be available to answer questions in regards to processes for content approval, technical details surrounding use of open simulator, and basic security issues. NUWC is also planning to demonstrate application sharing using the Sun Wonderland/Darkstar project for use in real time virtual training.
AGENDA-Technical Working Group (1-3:30 PM EST)
1. Finalize Charter
2. Begin to establish a list of Federal Gov't specific technical requirements for virtual world technology. (brainstorming)
3. Begin and maintain up-to-date examination of virtual world technologies. Activities may include active participation in Web3D Consortium, examination of existing Web3D ISO standards and making suggestions for future updates based on need, matching best VW technology to appropriate uses. Actively seek out and report about emerging VW technologies and use cases.(brainstorming)
4. Begin guidance documentation ("best practices"):
Examples:
- Network configuration behind a DoD firewall, IP filtering, ditch the mouse, etc...
- Which VW technology is appropriate for which use (one size does NOT fit all yet).
- Prototyping efforts behind your firewalls before upload to VW.
- Tools and process.
It is critical that the other working groups are consulted and invited to participate at this stage.
5. Maintain a use case list of Federal Agencies and how they achieved successes.
