Areas of Expertise

Members of the center participate in national level efforts to educate leaders and further progress in Information Assurance. These activities include leading meetings, conducting symposia, establishing standards, conducting simulations and exercises, providing consulting, and assembling and delivering specialized courses.

Information Operations - Daniel T. Kuehl, Ph.D. Irving Lachow, Ph.D., Robert A. Miller, Ph.D., and James Churbuck, M.S.

This area includes areas vital to our war fighters such as Electronic Warfare, Operations Security, Psychological Operations, Military Deception, and Computer Network Operations. For over ten years Center members have been instrumental in creating the first curriculum focused strictly on this important topic.

Certification and Accreditation - Gilliam E. Duvall, M.S., Mark Duke, M.S., John Rossi, M.S., and Robert Young, D.H.Sc.

C&A is the process that ensures that an information system has adequate and appropriate controls in place to warrant its operation. The college offers education in the Defense Information Assurance Certifiation and Accreditation Process (DIACAP), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) certification and accreditation of federal information systems, and the efforts toward merging those approaches.

Wireless Security - Robert Young, D.H.Sc. Stephen Mancini, M.S., and Gilliam E. Duvall, M.S.

The importance of protecting our growing array of wireless is highlighted by center member education, research, writing, and presentations in this arena.

Infrastructure Control Systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) - John H. Saunders, Ph.D., Luis Kun Ph.D.

This area provides a focus on awareness and protection of our government's infrastructure control devices and control centers. These controls have a key role in the delivery of basic services such as electricity, water, and fuel on military bases and in government buildings and business centers. Center members have participated in efforts including the ISA's SP-99, NIST's PCSRF, and the newly formed Working Group on Control Systems Security Curriculum (CSSC).

Critical Infrastructure Protection - Mary Carroll, J.D., Daniel T. Kuehl, Ph.D., Luis Kun Ph.D., Gilliam E. Duvall, M.S., John H. Saunders, Ph.D. Robert A. Miller, Ph.D.

With emphasis on the cyber facets of Critical Infrastructure Protection, the college provides education addressing the interrelationships and interdependence among the sectors identified in national policy directives. Simulations, field trips and presentations from key government and industry experts provide opportunities to explore and influence future directions.

Risk Management - Daniel J. Ryan, J.D. Mary Carroll, J.D., John Rossi, M.S.

The college offers education in risk analysis and management as it related to information assurance/security and critical infrastructure protection. Center members are developing new methods for estimation of probability functions enabling quantitative risk management. Applications of quantitative risk management include information assurance investment analysis and security metrics for information infrastructures. In addition, center members also work to emphasize and formalize the risk management processes impacting information security management decisions.

Forensics - Robert Young, D.H.Sc., Gilliam E. Duvall, M.S Stephen Mancini, M.S.

Continuity of Operations - James Kasprzak, Ph.D., Robert A. Miller, Ph.D., Mary Carroll, J.D., and John Rossi, M.S.
