New from the NESA Center

The NESA Center in New York City

On 12 June, the NESA Center took its monthly "Washington Seminar" to New York for our first program aimed at the United Nations diplomatic community.  Held at the historic Union League Club with senior speakers from the Council on Foreign Relations and more than 25 foreign diplomats, this was a resounding success and we look forward to doing more.


Executive Seminar Concludes

On 26 June, the NESA Center ended its last ES for FY 2008 consisting of 39 mid-to-senior level NESA region military and civilian officials from 22 countries.  The next ES is scheduled for late October.

NEW!!  Afghan Parliamentarians Visit DC

June 16-20, , the NESA Center, the House Democratization Assistance Commission, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Policy) hosted Afghan parliamentarians and other officials in a visit to DC.  The second such visit, this program aims to introduce participants to U.S. policy formulation and legislative oversight of national security issues.

Forthcoming Faculty Publication

Dr. Fariborz Mokhtari writes on "Iran's 1953 Coup Revisited: Internal Dynamics v. External Intrigue" in the summer edition of The Middle East Journal (vol. 62, no. 3).

The Senate Intelligence Committee has just released the final Phase II report on prewar Iraq intelligence, focusing on public statements as well as the DOD Policy OfficeChairman Rockefeller  and Vice Chairman Roberts issued statements about the report that differed sharply.
