DC Subway System

The DC subway system (Metro) presents two options:
METRO and VRE.

METRO

Option one, the DC Metro has a stop within strenuous walking distance of Fort McNair: the Green Line stop at Waterfront-SEU. The station exit is in front of a Safeway store on the north side of M Street. Cross M Street and walk down 4th Street. After several blocks, the road curves to the left and becomes P Street. The first right turn takes you to the Fort McNair gate.

VRE

Option two, the DC Metro and the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) have a stop at L'Enfant Plaza. Upon arrival at the L'Enfant Plaza stop, deboard and proceed to the HUD Building located at “D” & 7th Street to board the USCG Shuttle. You must present a government ID to board the Shuttle. Take the USCG Shuttle to the Coast Guard Headquarters Building (CGHQ), and walk eastward toward the NDU, Ft. McNair Gate (you must have a Proximity Card for entrance), or to the front Fort McNair “P” Street gate (without Proximity Card).
