Dr. Amy Zalman , a Booz Allen Hamilton contrator, joined the faculty of the National War College in September 2012 as the Department of Defense Chair of Information Integration. Previously, she worked at SAIC, a Washington DC based science and technology firm, where she developed new market strategies and basic research projects in the strategic communications sector. She is currently an adjunct instructor at the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Joint Special Operations University.
Dr. Zalman frequently briefs foreign policy stakeholders and general audiences on the roles of communication and narrative in global problem solving. Recent briefings include U.S. Congress, NATO, the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense, the U.S. Marine Corps, the National Institutes of Health, and TEDx Georgetown. She has served on the faculties of New York University, Cornell University and the New School University. Her publications include Countering Violent Extremism: Beyond Words, published by the EastWest Institute, and journal articles and opinion editorials on communication and foreign policy.
Dr. Zalman serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Emerging National Security Affairs (censa.net), and is a member of the Public Diplomacy Council and the Senior Information Operations Advisory Council, and a former fellow at the EastWest Insitute. She holds a Bachelors degree in English Literature from Columbia University, a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies from New York University, and speaks Arabic and Hebrew.
