GETTING TO NWC
by
SUBWAY

Go to the DC Metro Website: http://www.wmata.com/

The DC subway system (Metro) presents two options:
  • Option one, the DC Metro has a stop within strenuous walking distance of Fort McNair: the Green Line stop at Waterfront-SEU. The station exit is in front of a Safeway store on the north side of M Street. Cross M Street and walk down 4th Street. After several blocks, the road curves to the left and becomes P Street. The first right turn takes you to the main Fort McNair gate. The next right is the old P Street gate, but this is open only on special occasions. The next right is 2nd Street; turn right, then take the immediate next right into the new security gate.
  • Option two, the DC Metro and the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) have a stop at L'Enfant Plaza. Upon arrival at the L'Enfant Plaza stop, deboard and proceed to either the Federal Office Building (FAA) - 10A (FOB 10-A) [Maryland & 7th Street Exit] or to the Department of Transportation Headquarters Building (HQ Bldg.) [D Street & 7th Street Exit]. The DOT Shuttle stops at either location. You must present a government ID to board the Shuttle. Take the DOT Shuttle to the Coast Guard Headquarters Building (CGHQ), and walk eastward toward the side Ft. McNair Gate (must have a Proximity Card for entrance), or to the front Fort McNair P Street gate (without Proximity Card).
