Mr. Mark Pizzo is the Chief of Staff and Dean of Students of the National War College and a retired Marine Corps Colonel. His military career spanned 31 years in command and staff positions from infantry platoon commander to Commander, Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capability) levels. His overseas tours included Southeast Asia, Europe, Lebanon, China and Russia; this includes operational tours in Vietnam, Beirut, and Somalia. He served in the Washington DC area at the Service Headquarters and the Office of the Secretary
of Defense for Counter Drug Operations. He completed his last four years of service as a Professor of Military Science and the Senior Marine/MC Chair at the National War College.
Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked as a consultant for ANSER Homeland Security and the Department
of Agriculture regarding Bio-terrorism. During this same time, he completed certification for teaching High School and subsequently taught U.S. History at West Potomac High School before becoming the Chief of Staff/Dean of Students.
He is a graduate of San Jose State College, and he possesses an M.S. in Social Science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship, University of Syracuse. His military education included Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and he is a 1991 graduate of the National War College. He was also selected for the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard University.
