Scowcroft to be Inducted into National Defense University National Hall of Fame

(Washington, DC) Lieutenant General Brent Scowcroft, USAF (Retired) will be inducted into the National Defense University (NDU) National Hall of Fame, March 13, 2013 at 1:30 PM. The ceremony will occur in Lincoln Hall, located on NDU’s north campus on Fort Lesley J. McNair.

The National Hall of Fame is the most prestigious honor given by the University that acknowledges the accomplishments of United States NDU alumni whose exceptional records of service and achievement merit special recognition.

Lt Gen Scowcroft is a 1968 Graduate of the University’s National War College. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the United States Military Academy (West Point) where he was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate, and his Master’s and Doctoral Degrees from Columbia University in International Relations. He received the Medal of Freedom in 1991 from George H.W. Bush and in 1993 was presented with the insignia of an Honorary Knight of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. In 2009, he was presented the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

He retired from the US Air Force in 1975 after a distinguished military career. Some of his positions include: Professor of Russian History at West Point; Assistant Air Attaché in Belgrade, Yugoslavia; Head of Political Science Department at the United States Air Force Academy; Air Force Long Range Plans; Office of the Secretary of Defense International Security Assistance; Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Military Assistant to President Richard Nixon; and Deputy National Security Advisor.
He continued to serve the Nation as the National Security Advisor to two Presidents: Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush. He served on the President’s General Advisory Committee on Arms Control, the President’s Commission on Strategic Forces, the President’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Defense Management, and the President’s Special Review Board, Chairman of the Intelligence Advisory Board, to name a few. Recently, he has served as co-chair for the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future and the National Academies of Science’s Committee on Science, Security and Prosperity.
