NDU hosts Ambassador Reuben E. Brigety II, U.S. Representative to the African Union

On September 28th, the Center for Complex Operations hosted Ambassador Reuben E. Brigety II, Representative to the African Union, to speak on the topic of “The African Union: Towards Peace and Security in Africa.” Ambassador Brigety was appointed U.S. Representative to the African Union and Permanent U.S. Representative to the UN Economic Commission of Africa on September 3, 2013. Prior to this appointment, Ambassador Brigety served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of African Affairs and has also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. The Ambassador discussed the structural and operational role of the African Union as well as specific projects facilitated. He also discussed the strategic role that the AU can have in terms of the relationship between the U.S. and Africa, and how the AU can be used to facilitate peace and stability on the African continent.
