Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) generally provide that any person has a right to request access to federal agency records, except to the extent the records are protected from disclosure by exemptions contained in the law or by one of three special law enforcement record exclusions.

Making a FOIA Request to NDU

FOIA requests directed to NDU are submitted through the Executive Services Directorate, Washington Headquarters Service (WHS), OSD/JS FOIA Requester Service Center ("the Center"). The Center supports all actions related to FOIA requests submitted by the public for access to records under the control of the OSD and JS, to include NDU and other specific OSD components.

Requests outside the scope of the Center should be directed to the Military Service, Combatant Command, or Defense Agency that maintains the record(s) of interest.

Before submitting a FOIA request for NDU records, please check to see if the information you seek is already available in the Center's OSD/JS FOIA Reading Room Library.
