Credits May Now be Applied Towards Global Information Assurance Certification’s (GIAC) CMU Requirements
Washington, DC. The National Defense University (NDU) Information Resources Management College, also known as the iCollege, and Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), an affiliate of the SANS Institute, are pleased to announce they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will allow NDU iCollege students to apply their iCollege graduate course credits towards the GIAC Certification Maintenance Unit (CMU) requirements. With the NDU iCollege’s focus on cyber and information leadership education, the relationship between GIAC and the college was a natural fit.
GIAC will offer a maximum of 12 Certification Maintenance Units (CMUs) for each 3-credit iCollege graduate course that a student successfully completes. GIAC certification holders are required to complete 36 CMUs every four (4) years to maintain their GIAC certifications. Students should refer to the GIAC website at: http://www.giac.org/certifications/renewal for current requirements of the GIAC certification renewal program.
The NDU iCollege has nearly 40 academic partner universities across the U.S. that accept 9-to-15 graduate credits for completion of the college’s certificate programs; however, this new relationship with GIAC is the first of its kind for the iCollege. This will give NDU iCollege students even greater flexibility with the graduate credits they earn at the school. According to Dr. Robert Childs, NDU iCollege Chancellor, “With technical certifications becoming so important for employee professional development, allowing NDU iCollege students to use their graduate credits for GIAC certification renewal is a win-win! We are very pleased with this new agreement.”
The NDU iCollege, a U.S. Department of Defense institution, prepares military and civilian leaders to optimize information technology management and secure information dominance within cyberspace. Although most students come from DoD (military and civilians), the school also accepts federal agency, private sector, and international students into its graduate programs.
