NDU Graduation to be held June 18 at Fort McNair June 17, 2015 — The National Defense University’s (NDU) main campus graduation will be held on Thursday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m., in front of historic Roosevelt Hall on Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, DC. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin E. Dempsey (U.S. Army) will be the graduation speaker. MORE
Dempsey Calls for Research and Essay Competition honoring King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz January 26, 2015 — Today officials at the National Defense University announced they are establishing a research and essay competition honoring the late Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, an initiative requested by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army Gen. Padilla Becomes 15th President of National Defense University November 19, 2014 — Major General Frederick M. Padilla, USMC, assumed the duties as the 15th President of the National Defense University (NDU) from Ambassador Wanda L. Nesbitt in an Assumption of Presidency ceremony on Nov. 18, 2014. MORE
NDU iCollege Welcomes New Chancellor October 17, 2014 — The National Defense University’s Information Resources Management College, also known as NDU iCollege, welcomed Rear Admiral Janice “Jan” Hamby (USN, retired) as its new chancellor. Hamby has more than 30 years of experience in cyber and information technology, and has served as a senior technology strategist at the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), and the Commander, Multi-National Force - Iraq. NDU Welcomes Inaugural Class of USPACOM Scholars October 07, 2014 — NDU is pleased to announce the selection of the inaugural class of U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) Scholars. The six scholars each will write a course or research paper on a topic of USPACOM interest, focus their electives on Asia-Pacific courses, have the opportunity to brief a senior USPACOM leader on their research findings, and receive special recognition at graduation. The program is intended to enrich the experience of NDU students and produce substantive research of interest to USPACOM. MORE
8th Annual TIDES Technology Field Demonstration September 24, 2014 — For the 8th year, NDU is hosting a live demonstration of innovative technologies to improve disaster assistance and development. From October 7-10, more than 70 civilian groups and businesses will set up with no water, no power, and no shelter; nothing except what they make for themselves. MORE

NDU Welcomes First Chief Operating Officer September 23, 2014 — Major General Robert C. "Rob" Kane (USAF, retired) joins the NDU leadership this week, as the university’s first Chief Operating Officer. As COO, Kane will lead all direct operational aspects of the university, including information technology services, human resources, facilities management, and budget. He also will have oversight of travel, continuity of operations, and policies pertaining to the administration of these university programs. MORE
The NDU iCollege Welcomes AMP49 Students September 11, 2014 — The National Defense University’s Information Resources Management College (NDU iCollege) this week welcomed the Advanced Management Program’s (AMP) 49th cohort. NDU Inducts Two International Alumni into Hall of Fame September 08, 2014 — National Defense University (NDU) Interim President Ambassador Wanda L. Nesbitt formally inducted two international alumni into the International Fellows Hall of Fame on September 3, 2014. The inductees, Major General Kenrick Maharaj and Admiral José Santiago Valdés Álvarez, hail from Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico, respectively. The International Fellows Hall of Fame was established in 1999 to provide a prestigious and visible means to honor NDU graduates who have attained, through military merit, the highest positions in their nations’ Armed Forces or who have held equivalent positions in a multinational military organization. African Leadership Development Symposium July 15, 2014 — On Friday, July 18, 2014, the Director of the Institute for National Strategic Studies at the National Defense University welcomes a Lincoln Symposium panel of experts to discuss African Leadership Development. UK and US Military Leaders Participate in New Annual Forum April 09, 2014 — Military leaders from the United Kingdom and United States will meet this week at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington to discuss common strategic policy challenges and develop lasting relationships, to symbolize the enduring military partnership between the US and the UK. This is the inaugural meeting of the UK-US Military Leaders Forum and will be held from 6-10 April 2014. MORE
Challenge Looks to Improve Post-War and Post-Conflict Zones March 20, 2014 — Each year, a large number of civilians are killed and injured by unexploded weapons such as artillery shells, land mines, mortars, grenades and bombs. These explosive remnants of war (ERW) regularly disrupt daily civilian life in post-war and conflict zones. To combat the problem, the Center for Technology and National Security Policy (CTNSP) at the National Defense University (NDU) is challenging developers to come up with a mechanism to keep “eyes on the street” and transform ordinary citizen’s mobile devices into tools that can be used to report ERW and land mines to the appropriate authorities. $5,000 App Challenge Looking for Ways to Improve Disaster Relief Apps March 20, 2014 — Beginning Monday, March 17, the National Defense University’s Center for Technology and National Security Policy (CTNSP) will be launching a Disaster Apps Challenge. From the earthquake in Haiti to the recent typhoon in the Philippines, disaster relief applications have shown great promise in increasing the efficiency and response time of the humanitarian sector. This $5,000 contest challenges app developers to find innovative ways to improve and refine existing disaster relief applications. MORE
Dr. Robert D. Childs to Retire as Chancellor of the iCollege at National Defense University February 15, 2014 — Chancellor of NDU’s Information Resources Management College (IRMC or iCollege), Dr. Robert D. Childs, has announced his retirement. When asked about his decision, he said, “After careful thought and much reflection I have decided to retire 31 January 2014 from my position as Chancellor of the National Defense University iCollege. Having served over four decades in government service, 30 years at National Defense University (NDU), nearly 23 years at the iCollege as Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs initially, and as Chancellor the last 14 years, it is time to explore new challenges in a new venue. Rick L. Waddell Named as New CAPSTONE Senior Director January 31, 2014 — MG Gregg F. Martin, President of the National Defense University (NDU) announced today that Rick L. Waddell, Ph.D., Major General, US Army Reserve, will serve as the new Senior Director of CAPSTONE. Waddell will officially report to NDU in the next few months. CAPSTONE is a congressionally mandated course for all newly promoted active duty one star general and flag officers and is executed four times annually. Also in Waddell’s portfolio will be Keystone and Pinnacle, which are conducted twice annually and educate Command Senior Enlisted and two and three star general and flag officers, respectively. MORE
General Powell Receives Honorary Doctorate from National Defense University December 20, 2013 — Former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell, United States Army (Ret.), received an honorary degree of Doctor of National Security Affairs from National Defense University (NDU) on Wednesday 11 December at 1300 in Abraham Lincoln Hall Auditorium. Dr. John Yaeger, NDU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented the degree and introduced General Powell. MORE
7 th Annual TIDES Technology Field Demonstration September 25, 2013 — For the 7th year, the National Defense University (NDU) is showcasing a variety of innovative technologies for disaster assistance and development. From 1-4 October, more than 70 nonprofit organizations, citizen associations, and specialized vendors, using no water, power, or shelter, will showcase their most inventive ideas and tools to help people in the aftermath of a natural disaster, conflict, or for those who live in extreme poverty. The demonstration will continue at the Pentagon in Center Court from 7-9 October where more than 20 civilian groups and businesses will be present. MORE
NDU iCollege Wins “Learning!100” Award September 23, 2013 — The National Defense University Information Resources Management College (or iCollege) is proud to announce that it has been recognized with a “Learning!100” award from eLearning Media Group. The college ranks 13th out of the 40 top public sector award winners for its innovation in educational programs. iCollege faculty and staff have worked hard to integrate traditional classroom lectures with hands-on learning in its cyber laboratories and continues to innovate in the online-programs arena. The college’s Ci Center is the newest innovative learning environment that combines the latest technologies with collaborative and highly-effective learning methods. MORE
